Ghaziabad AOAs are stuck, but why?

Ghaziabad AOAs are faced with a peculiar problem — despite completing all formalities the members have failed to get their associations renewed, and some are pending renewal for over a year now.

Here’s what’s happening...

Every time the AOAs approach the deputy registrar’s office in Meerut, they are handed out a new list of documents that are to be submitted to get the registration renewed.

Once registered, an AOA’s term ends after five years — after that, the body has to be renewed for another five years.

Speaking to City Spidey, Anil Sharma, president of Ashiana Upvan, said that they had submitted all the requested documents, along with the renewal fees, but nothing happened despite repeated reminders.

Sharma added, “We are tired of running to Meerut every time the registrar’s office comes up with a new demand. The welfare of several thousand of residents is at risk due to this callousness. Besides, this severely impacts the functioning of the body.”

Sanjeev Sharma, an AOA member of Raison Armor Homes, has the same complaint. He said, “We sent our society supervisor with the request to renew the association for the fourth time! He was returned with another request yet again, and asked to wait for a list of requirements.”

Discussing the issue with City Spidey, Alok Kumar, patron of Federation of AOAs, said the AOA of his society, Arihant Harmony, could not be renewed for pretty much the same reasons for over a year now. “We are going to approach the UP chief minister’s office over the issue,” he added.

On condition of anonymity, a few residents alleged that registration was being denied because members refused to dole out bribe money. “Only a few AOAs have managed to get themselves registered, while most of us, who refused, are still stuck,” said an AOA member.

However, DK Maurya, FedAOA president, felt much of the problem persisted due to the absence of a local registrar office in Noida and Ghaziabad.

“The office in Meerut does not face the public anger. Many societies have already paid the required fees, but still fell short of renewal. The previous vice-chairman of Ghaziabad Development Authority had also written to the UP government for a local registrar office, but nothing has come of it so far. We are going to renew that demand,” Maurya added.
