In a unique case reported from Gurgaon, a domestic help who reportedly kidnapped a pet Labrador for ransom, has been arrested. The kidnapped dog, Shakti, owned by well-known fashion designer Sanjana Jon in Sushant Lok I, has been retrieved and is now back with the family.

The accused, Dinesh Gautam, a native of the Butwal district in Nepal, was arrested on May 31 from New Delhi. Gautam is accused of having kidnapped four-month-old Shakti on May 29 night and demanding a ransom of Rs 35,000 from Jon.

Jon filed a complaint with the Sector 50 police station that very night.

Gautam had reportedly taken Shakti out on the pretext of a regular check-up with the vet on the night of May 29. But he disappeared with the dog and demanded that the ransom money be transferred to his bank account in Nepal. If this was not done, he threatened to kill the pet. He thereafter sent several messages on WhatsApp and Facebook notifying Jon of the kidnapping and warning her of dire consequences if the ransom money was not paid.

DCP East, Deepak Saharan, told City Spidey, “As soon as we received the complaint, we put his number on surveillance and formed a team to nab him. The pet has now been recovered and Gautam has been remanded to a 14-day judicial custody in Bhondsi jail.”

Gautam had even shot videos of him playing with the dog to threaten Jon that Shakti would be killed if she did not comply with his demand. It was on the evening of May 31 that the police tracked down Gautam - and the dog - at his friend’s rented accommodation near Kotla in Delhi.

Jon shared a video thanking everyone who had helped her get her dog back, including Gurgaon Police and her friends.

City Spidey tried to contact her, but she remained unavailable for comment.
