Two thefts in a span of two hours in Uppal's Southend!

Two thefts in a span of two hours on Thursday left residents of Uppal's Southend, in Sector 49 on Sohna Road, Gurgaon, feeling unsafe and insecure.

The incidents took place in Block S of the society. While the owners of one house were away on a vacation for the past 15 days, the tenant of the second had left her house for only an hour when the houses were robbed.

Spread over 119 acres, the society comprises four blocks — P, R, S and W. About 1,800 residents live in the society. Although the society does not have a boundary wall, there are gates at the main entry and exit points that are manned by guards.

“Our colony is open on four sides," said Jile Singh, estate officer of the society. "We have 10 gates, of which we operate three, and there are guards stationed there. There are 15 guards on duty at any given time.”

Residents are in a state of panic.

“We were planning to go on a short weekend trip, but with the current state of affairs, I had to cancel my plan,” said Sanjib Banerji, a resident of Block W.

Adding to this, Shamita Das, another resident of the same block, said, “There have been incidents of theft in our block earlier as well. I feel insecure, as my husband travels to Manesar for work every day.”

“Our colony does not have a boundary wall," said Bhagat Singh, president of the society's RWA. "The builder has done nothing to help us. I have even requested residents to inform the RWA when they leave for vacation, but people seldom pay heed to any advice. If we know a family is going to be away for a while, we can arrange for people to keep an eye on the house.”

SHO Surinder Singh Phogat told City Spidey, “We have increased our patrolling and posted men at most crucial locations. We request residents to get their maids and servants verified by the police. The society's guards also need to keep a record of the vehicles that enter and exit the colony.”
