To deal with the shortage of water supply in the pocket, the RWA of DDA SFS Sector 5 is demanding its own underground water reservoir (UGR).

Mahesh Gupta, general secretary of the RWA, tells City Spidey that an UGR is the need of the hour in the pocket. “We have irregular and shortage of supply to our pocket from the UGR in Sector 4. That happens because the pressure is low in the supply pipe line and the distance of the pocket from the UGR. The supply to that UGR from Command Tank 3 is also insufficient, which adds to the problem. So we need our own UGR at the pocket to solve the problem permanently,” he says.

Out of 364 flats in the society, about 100 flats face poor water supply. “We get about half an hour supply in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. This is not sufficient and to meet our requirement and we depend on tankers from Delhi Jal Board. In a week, we ask for tankers twice or thrice. The UGR in Sector 4 also supplies water to other societies in Sector 4 and Sector 11. A total 756 flats get water from that UGR. As these societies are nearer to the UGR, there get good pressure,” said Gupta.

The RWA also says that after the takeover of water supply by DJB from Delhi Development Authority in 2015, some work was also done by DJB in the society to improve water pipeline infrastructure. “DJB engineers visited our pocket and did some work. But after sometime we started facing problem in the supply. We wrote to the DJB and also to the Delhi government. Recently, I raised the issue of our supply in a meeting with the MLA too. Now we are waiting for a response from them.”

The RWA has been following up the subject with the authorities and the public representative since 2015. BD Sharma, an RWA member, said that only assurances have been given to them but no solution.
