Uppal's Southend: Any safer with the intercom facility?

The RWA of Uppal's Southend in Sector 50, Gurgaon, has started installing intercom facility at houses that have Airtel connections. This move is set to improve the society's security.

After a tie up with Airtel, the RWA has provided the facility to 250 houses in the colony. Although the 110-acre colony continues to lack a boundary wall, guards stationed at the three gates of the society have been trained to use the intercom facility to keep a check on visitors.

"The guards check with the house owner's before allowing any visitors in," said Jile Singh, estate officer of the society.

"Although not a fool-proof solution for the society's security issue, the intercom facility has made us feel slightly safer than before," said Sakhi Sharma, a resident of W block who is using the facility. "It also helps in keeping away unwanted visitors such as salesmen and delivery boys. However, something needs to be done about the houses where the owners are away. That's when most of the incidents of theft occur."

Speaking to City Spidey, Bhagat Singh, president of the RWA, said, “We are trying to tie-up with the other telecom operators and hope to provide all our residents with this facility soon.”
