Gurgaon: Break-ins so rampant that Sec 27 residents have stopped stepping out

The fact that the sector does not have a boundary wall makes it easy for criminals to steal what they want and get away.

Gurgaon: Break-ins so rampant that Sec 27 residents have stopped stepping out

A series of burglaries in Sector 27, Gurgaon, has left residents feeling insecure. The fact that the sector does not have a boundary wall makes it vulnerable to frequent incidents of crime. Residents of the sector have demanded increased police patrolling in their area to curb the thefts.

With about 700 residents living in the 15-acre sector, the RWA's primary concern is the security of residents.

The most commonly stolen item is bicycles. "Even keeping bicycles safe is proving futile, as the thieves manage to pick the locks and steal them anyway," said Yogendra Bhatti, president of the RWA.

In another incident, a house was robbed of laptop, jewellery and some household items while the owner was out of town. Of late, men on bikes have started snatching chains from unassuming residents.

"Two people on a motorcycle snatched my wife's chain a few days ago," said HK Dang, a resident of the sector. "She is so traumatised by the incident that she just refuses to step out of the house."

Speaking to City Spidey, Vikas Kaushik, SHO Sector 27, said, “We are trying our best to keep the area secure. We will increase patrols in the area and keep an eye out for suspicious people in the neighbourhood."
