When your children are keen to spend time outside watering plants they don’t own, you know you’ve done good as a parent. Manansh and Anaisaa, residents of Kamakshi Apartments in Sector 6, are often seen doing so along with their father, Ashwani Sharma.

It’s been almost a month since the kids started on their unique journey to connect with nature, watering plants in the park close to their society.

Dad Ashwani says, "I want to make my children feel connected with nature — it’s the need of the hour. I, too, am involved with them — want their friends to participate as well. In fact, one of their friends, Ishan Gambhir, has joined us already."

How it all began?

“We had gone for our routine morning walk when we saw a senior citizen carrying water in poly bags — he would use it to water the plants. My daughter simply said, ‘Dad why can’t we do this?’ And that was the start,” recalled Ashwani.

Of about 100 plants in the park, they water around 50 plants.

“We carry about 30 to 40 litres of water in our car. It’s a part of our routine now — we first water the plants and then go anywhere else,” shares the father.

Daughter Anaisaa, too, loves spending time with the plants. She feels, “These plants are like my friends. I love to spend time with them, specially watering them. I have also shared my experience with my friends and they seem interested now.”
