Gurgaon’s Sec 28 in need of police security

With no boundary walls in HUDA's Sector 28, Gurgaon, security in the area has been a cause for concern for residents. Sparsely populated, the sector has witnessed cases of theft and needs regular police patrolling.

Spread over 63 acres, the sector has 357 plots and just 120 houses. Five years ago, there was some relief for residents in form of a police booth at Jan Pratinidhi Apartments situated next to the sector. But as it was removed later, there has been limited police security.

Cycles, tyres, side-view mirrors of vehicles, sewage covers and even iron railings installed by Haryana Urban Development Authority have been stolen from the sector.

“The police station assigned to our sector is in Sector 29. It’s quite far and no one reports the thefts. There is no regular PCR movement here. There was a theft in my house while I was away on vacation barely a year ago,” says Harsh Jaidka, a resident.

Moreover, anti-social elements and people drinking in cars can be seen in the area where a HUDA market was to be developed.

“We feel unsafe venturing out after dark or even in the afternoon. There is no security and if something happens, there is no police nearby,” says Sadhna Gupta, another resident.

Some residents find their situation desperate and four to five houses have even employed paid guards in their houses.

Residents had written a letter in this regard to the DCP in 2016, but to no effect. Speaking to City Spidey, Vikas Kaushik, SHO, Sector 29, said, “As per our resources, we have to concentrate and focus on areas where there are more people. But now, we will try to get as much patrolling done in the area as possible. Our focus would be to get rid of the anti-social elements on the site designated for the HUDA market”
