Dwarka: Children taking to yoga for a healthy mind, body and soul

More children are attending a week-long yoga camp for children organised by Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, which finds positivity in the enthusiasm of children towards our ancient exercises for health and fitness.

Dwarka: Children taking to yoga for a healthy mind, body and soul

Yoga for healthy mind and body is gaining more and more popularity with each passing day. And this was very much in evidence at the seven-day Yoga Bal Shivir (Children’s camp) that began at DDA Park in Sector 10, Dwarka, on Saturday. The camp, organised by Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, opens at 6 in the morning and closes at 7 in the evening. It will conclude on June 17.

The number of children attending the camp was larger on Sunday, as the word-of-mouth helped generate more enthusiasm among the children. Doing different asanas, including pranayam, a yoga teacher, said helped the children in increasing their memory power and perfecting their digestive system.

One of the instructors and a resident of Saksham Apartments, Sector 10, Rakesh Mehra, was checking the pose and postures of the children. He said, "Children of age group from 4 years to 16 years reached the park half an hour before the class began at 5.30 am. The middle and upper middle-class children who generally prefer to sleep till late in the morning got up and reached in the park along with their parents. Sunday was the second day and I am happy that they are taking interest. "

The yoga guru Anil Gupta started teaching yoga with the basics – all the five elements of the body -- Jal, agni, vayu, aakash, and prithvi. The children were made to practice pranayam mudra, which is expected to increase their concentration. Besides yoga, the children also interacted with elders who have experience of yoga. A resident of Prerna Apartments, Sector 10, Jawahar Lal, who has been doing yoga since 1957 told the children about his yoga journey and its benefits.

Rakesh Mehra said, "Here we are making children interact with people of different fields from the community who could inspire them. So, in a week from June 10- June 17 we are trying to give maximum to these children."

Parents also participated in the camp.

One of the parents and a resident of Bandhu Vihar Apartments, Sector 10, Poonam Gururani, said, “My daughter Yamini is coming here, so we also started coming to this park. I used to do yoga in the park next to my society. But now for a week I will be doing it here. The camp is a good initiative as children are getting attached with yoga."
