Gurgaon: Strong surface winds twist electric poles, disrupt power supply

For residents of Gurgaon, already suffering from regular power outages due to technical faults and overload, Saturday night was another power-less night. But only this time, it was the weather that was the culprit.

Gurgaon: Strong surface winds twist electric poles, disrupt power supply

Strong surface winds accompanied by light shower caused power outages in different parts of Gurgaon on Saturday night. The residents had no power for nearly 5 to 6 hours.

The weather induced power failure only added to the already troubled citizenry that has been undergoing regular power outages due to technical faults at Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) power house.

According to DHBVN officials, strong winds felled electric poles and some poles broke. Overloading led to power lines tripping, the officials said adding, “now all issues have been sorted out.”

Palam Vihar, HUDA sectors 57, 56, 51, 38, 15, 14, 7, 5, 4, South City I and II were some of the areas that were hit by outages.

“The areas receive power from Daulatabad Line, which is then stored at power house. Fault had occurred in that line, which was detected at night itself. The electricity was restored on Sunday morning by 9 at all these areas,” said Kapoor Singh, junior engineer, DHBVN.

“The doors were rattling at midnight when I realised strong winds were blowing. And suddenly power blew out. There was no electricity in our sector from midnight and in the morning we could not even start the motor to fill the overhead water tanks,” said Ramesh Gaur, a resident of Sector 51.

Inability to store water added to the woes of the residents across the affected areas.
