For the past over one month, Sector 51, Noida, residents are getting dirty, smelly contaminated water in their taps and they can do precious little as there is no alternative.

The problem is becoming acute as the Noida authorities are unable to identify the source of contamination and hence it cannot be rectified.

Meanwhile, residents are complaining that they get dark to pale brown coloured water and that too at very low pressure.

Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of RWA of Sector 51, said "We have been taking up the issue with the authority from the time it started more than a month ago. But a solution to our grievance is awaited."

The water is so dirty that it is already damaging the water purifying machines installed at homes. The water mixed with muck blocks filter of the purifying machine and they have to be cleaned every 10 days, said Sanjeev Kumar. "The dirt has formed into a thick layer on the filters and damaged the purifying machines. Residents suspected that the underground water supply lines are damaged somewhere from where the water is getting contaminated,” he said.

Though the officials are trying to help the residents, they have so far failed to locate the source from where the water supply in the pipelines is getting contaminated. He pointed out that there is no flash point in the sector for clearing dirt in the underground pipelines. If there is one, then cleaning becomes easier he said.

Saumya Srivastava, Deputy CEO, Noida, said the problem was noted and officials were trying to resolve the problem. It will be resolved soon, he assured.
