Gurgaon: Is Sector 22B safe enough now?

Yes! With 17 CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations, the sector — an erstwhile crime hotbed — has had no reports of crimes so far.

Gurgaon: Is Sector 22B safe enough now?

In view of increasing incidents of vehicle thefts and chain snatching, the RWA of Gurgaon’s Sector 22B installed 17 CCTV cameras at strategic locations to increase electronic surveillance.

The area houses 650 families.

After the CCTV cameras were set up, not a single incident has been reported from the locality so far, claim RWA members.

Over the past six months, the RWA has spent Rs 1.9 lakh on the project. The funds were organised by allowing private companies to instal hoardings and boards on the premises.

“We chose important points of the sector, spread across 6 km. Anyone entering or exiting the gates will be under watch. We have installed bullet cameras, which can function during rain. These cameras are capable of capturing high-resolution images even at night,” explained Bheem Singh Yadav, RWA president.

A digital video recorder (DVR) system — to record and monitor the footage — was set up recently at the residence of an RWA member.

“The initiative came after receiving frequent complaints from the residents, who were beginning to feel insecure and threatened. Two dozen cases of vehicle thefts and chain snatching were reported from the area last year. We decided to boost security on our own — especially when the police didn’t pay much attention to our repeated complaints,” explained Poonam Verma, joint secretary of RWA.

“The CCTV cameras monitor and record all entries and exits. Feedback from the cameras will help officials identify the miscreants and eve-teasers,” said Dr LN Verma, RWA secretary.

DCP (crime), Sumit Kuhar, said, “These CCTV cameras will be a big help to us too. We can now monitor footage periodically. But thankfully, no incidents have been reported after the cameras were installed.”
