Uppal's Southend, a residential society in Sector 49, Gurgaon, is set to get three more rainwater harvesting pits and the sites for the same are currently being identified.

The deputy commissioner approved the development recently after constant follow-ups and reminders by the RWA regarding the need for more rainwater harvesting pits. The society, spread across 110 acres, is a low-level colony where the level of accumulated water goes up to 4 feet during the rainy season. There are about 250 houses in the area.

Anoushka Banerji, a resident of block W, says, “It gets very messy in the rains. The colony needs more pits.”

“In the rainy season, the water gets accumulated and causes inconvenience to the residents. We are trying to prepare for the monsoons beforehand,” says Bhagat Singh Yadav, RWA president.

There are two rainwater harvesting tanks in the society that have been serviced and cleaned. The cleaning process involved removing the mud and leaves from the pit.

“We employed four workers to clean the old pits,” says Jile Singh, estate manager.
