Noida: Sec 61 RWA seeks permission to manage sector’s gates The gate in Block D, which was opened by Noida Authority

Two days after protesting against the opening of one of the closed entry gates in Sector 61, Noida, the RWA of the sector wrote to Amit Mohan Prasad, CEO of Noida Authority, on June 12. It sought permission from the Authority to allow it to manage the entry and exit gates in the sector.

On receiving complaints from some residents in the sector against the closure of the entry gate in Block D, Authority officials had opened the gate on June 10. The RWA also opened all other gates in the sector in protest.

The RWA said that it had installed 12 gates in different blocks of the sector and was managing them as per residents’ needs. But as they were now open, there were concerns about security.

In a two-page letter, the residents’ body reminded the Authority about cases of thefts of vehicles and snatching in the area in the past. It expressed fears about the occurrence of such incidents gaining momentum in the sector as the sector had once become a thoroughfare for all, including miscreants. It was now easier for miscreants to commit crimes and get away. Consequently, residents’ safety and security were at stake.

Virendra Singh, president of the RWA, alleged that the officials had initiated action due to pressure from some influential people in the sector. He said, “We have urged the Authority to grant permission to authorise us to manage the entry and exit of vehicles. It is an issue of residents’ safety and we don’t want to compromise on it.”
