Residents of co-operative group housing societies are expressing their displeasure over the area SHO’s lacklustre approach in addressing their issues.

They had written a letter recently to Deepak Singh, the SHO, to draw his attention towards some issues. The SHO had then called residents for a meeting on the evening of June 12 at Mayur Vihar police station.

About 20 to 25 residents from societies such as Samachar Apartments, Lovely Apartments, Rosewood Apartments, OCS Apartments, Vardhaman Apartments, Nirman Apartments and United India Apartments reached the police station at 6 pm on Monday.

However, even after waiting for two hours, the meeting could not be held as the SHO and other police officers were not present. Purusottam Bhatt, president of United India Apartments, told City Spidey, “We were asked to wait. Finally, when we realised that the SHO was not coming, we returned. This is an insult to senior citizens.”

The meeting was called to discuss petty crimes, security of women and senior citizens, theft of vehicles, rash driving and other such issues. “We want to help the police control daily crimes. There are three main points where chain snatchers are active. One is near Bharat petrol pump close to Glaxo Apartments, second is the road between Samachar Apartments and Nirman Apartments, and the third is in front of Rosewood Apartments,” Bhatt added.

VK Singhal, a resident of Nirman Apartments who had gone to attend the meeting, said, “This kind of response from the police officials is condemnable. In the past, several meetings were held between the area SHO and residents. But this time, we felt humiliated. After returning from the police station, we were hoping that the SHO will contact us and fix another day for the meeting. But the SHO has not contacted us yet.”

The SHO was not available for comment.
