FedAOA tables resident demands before GDA

In order to highlight the longstanding pleas of Indirapuram and Vasundhara residents, members of FedAOA, an apex body of AOAs in Ghaziabad, met Kanchan Verma, vice-chairman (VC) of GDA today.

The members discussed a host of issues with the VC, including guidelines for commercial activities, access to the Hindon Elevated Road for residents of Indirapuram and Vasundhara, and action on commercial activities being conducted in residential areas.

Responding to queries, Kanchan Verma, the VC, said that access to the elevated road for residents of Indirapuram and Vasundhara was already on the cards, but that it had been held back temporarily due to a crunch in the development authority’s funds.

However, Sushil Bahuguna, general secretary of Vartalok Apartments in Vasundhara, took the VC’s response with a pinch of salt. Bahuguna said that the connectivity of the areas, which were already densely populated, should have been a priority for the development authority. “Instead of prioritising the needs of a developed residential area, the development authority looked into the requirements of builders and businessmen, who made investments in the projects in Raj Nagar Extension. Shelving a part of the project and wasting more time only means that it will be constructed as a renewed project several years later,” Bahuguna added.

Regarding commercial activity in residential areas, the VC said GDA was already trying to demarcate activities which caused disturbances in residential areas — they would be considered a priority during GDA’s sealing drives. Less disturbing activities such as small boutiques and parlours would be left alone. But businesses such as welding workshops, restaurants, sweet shops, vehicle mechanics, banquet halls — which caused disturbances in residential areas — would be dealt with strictly.

Earlier, FedAOA had also raised demands for a set of guidelines from GDA to bar commercial activities such as paying guest accommodations and commercial kitchens in residential areas.

The VC asked members of FedAOA to draft a set of guidelines for the issues. Moreover, the VC also assured residents to hold regular meetings with residents under the aegis of FedAOA.

Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, said that the federation would soon draft a set of guidelines after looking into the rules prevalent in other cities. “We’ll prepare a set of guidelines and submit it to GDA,” he added.
