Gurgaon: Sector 17B’s traffic woes

Heavy traffic on the road running between sectors 17 and 18 in Gurgaon has been causing a lot of inconvenience to residents of Sector 17B. They find it difficult to step out of their colony due to the traffic.

Although there was a decision for road widening for which several trees were felled, the situation is still the same.

One of the peculiar problems faced by residents is that traffic coming from IFFCO Chowk has to stop when vehicles from the sector turn towards IFFCO Chowk. As traffic coming from Palam Vihar does not stop to let vehicles pass, a jam occurs in a few seconds.

“The road has been experiencing heavy traffic for the past one year. To go from Sector 17B gate to IFFCO Chowk during office hours takes me nothing less than 35 minutes. This distance is less than a kilometre,” says Anil Kumar, a resident.

The road is usually clogged with office-goers during morning and evening hours.

DS Yadav, Sector 17B RWA president, tells City Spidey, “Our guards have to regulate traffic so that residents can pass. Sometimes commuters fight with them. It’s not their duty though. They’re just helping us.”

When City Spidey spoke to Balbir Singh, DCP traffic, he said, “We are inspecting the area as we have been aware of the issues. We have also increased police personnel on this stretch with a dedicated traffic police booth.”
