Gurgaon: MCG begins fumigation drives

Pre-monsoon showers have arrived in the city, and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is carrying out fumigation drives in various residential areas to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases, such as malaria and dengue, which usually surface around this time.

The MCG has deployed special fogging machines to make the exercise easy and effective. It has 23 portable fumigation machines. While three are big, the rest can be carried on small cars and even bicycles. The spray from a big machine can reach a distance of more than 150 m.

“It’s good they have initiated this preventive action to protect residents. We are keeping in touch with the authorities,” said Dr AK Nagpal, Sushant Lok I, RWA president.

The health department is also carrying out a recce of spots that get easily waterlogged.

“There are so many construction sites where the standing water becomes an open invite for mosquitoes. It is we residents who have to bear the brunt of it all,” complained Neeraj Yadav, RWA president, South City II.

VMK Singh, Suncity RWA general secretary, said, “Hopefully, the fumigation drive will help contain the threat.”
