Noida: Ensure cleaner premises, or be ready to pay up

This monsoon, be careful of where you are draining your waste water. The district’s chief medical officer can now penalise builders and Noida Authority officials for not adhering to guidelines.

Noida: Ensure cleaner premises, or be ready to pay up

Clean premises must be ensured at all costs — and the chief medical officer of Gautam Budh Nagar intends to do just that.

The chief medical officer of the district can now penalise builders and Noida Authority officials found guilty of leaving standing water on society premises and in public spaces.

The step is meant to prevent an outbreak of dengue, malaria and chikungunya. The drive will be launched on June 25.

Under the drive, mosquito-breeding checkers will conduct inspection of sites, based on complaints.

There have been several complaints from residents of high-rise apartments that the developer often leaves stagnating water in the basements.

And that’s not all.

A few builders even flood waste water into nearby vacant plots or green belts. In fact, officials of Noida Authority have received complaints of flooded parks and green belts from several residential sectors of Noida.

Dr Anurag Bhargava, chief medical officer, said, “We will conduct thorough inspection of several sites. The owners will be intimated of cleaning up the premises, failing which our office will deploy sanitation staff to get the premises dried and cleaned. However, in such a case, the owner will have to shoulder the cost of cleaning. If defaulters repeat mistakes, they will have to pay a fine, as decided by the sanitation team.”

They have also written to Noida Authority, asking them to clean all drains.

Bhargava added, “We have been urging residents to observe a ‘dry day’. Under it, residents are to clean a waterlogged spot and leave it dry for at least a day in a week. This is an effective measure for societies.”
