Residents of Gurgaon now have a trendy new place to practise yoga on International Yoga Day (June 21).

Pure Play, a new sportswear brand, will be organising a free yoga camp at their new yoga and meditation studio in New Colony.

“We are excited to introduce our new initiative to the people of Gurgaon on this special occasion," said Vashist Kumar Goyal, director, Pure Play. "The initiative will help us build a strong connect with our consumers, especially at a time when we are witnessing the most exciting time of our growth and expansion.”

“We also look forward to sharing many inspiring sports initiatives in future. At the same time, we will utilise consumer insights to develop the most innovative products to help athletes reach their full potential,” added Goyal.

According to Sushma Yadav, a resident of Sector 5, who has been practising yoga for the past 15 years, “It is something that should be part of our daily routine. Yoga is the solution to every problem — be it mental or physical. One just needs to dedicate their time to yoga, and that does wonders to one's wellbeing." Yadav had been prescribed dozens of medicines for her asthma. She chose to throw that prescription into the bin and start practising yoga instead. Now, she has no trouble breathing.

Sameer Bhatia, a resident of Sector 5, said, “Due to my sedentary lifestyle, I had put on 6 kg in the past three months. Now that I have a yoga centre so close to home, I want to take out time to practise regularly."

The district administration will also hold a yoga marathon, starting 6.30 am tomorrow. Most sectors and schools will organise yoga camps tomorrow.

Although International Yoga Day is only two years old, it has gained worldwide popularity since its inception in 2015. The idea was the first proposed by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, during his speech at UN General Assembly, where he stated: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in wellbeing. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.”
