I’puram: FIR against 2 members of Aditya Mega City AOA

An FIR has been lodged against the general secretary and the treasurer of the AOA of Aditya Mega City, a residential society in Indirapuram, on allegations of embezzlement of society’s funds, which were collected from the sale of recharge coupons for electricity and maintenance charges of the society.

The FIR has been lodged at Indirapuram police station on the basis of complaints from Amardeep Singh Vig, another member of the AOA. In his complaint, Vig mentioned that despite objections, the AOA was collecting both maintenance and electricity charges via coupons for electricity meters, and this was illegal. Vig alleged that on several accounts, the maintenance office had issued counterfeit receipts and the money collected from these receipts were not deposited in the association’s bank account.

“On investigating, I found out 61 such cases over a period of 8-9 months. On what I have found, I suspect mishandling of funds amounting to Rs 20-25 lakh and will prepare a report about it very soon,” Vig said.

Although Vig was aware of the involvement of maintenance staff, his complaint was against Arun Singhal, the general secretary, and Sameer Agarwal, the treasurer. When asked why he had complained against the AOA members, Vig said that the UP Apartment Act, 2010, held the general secretary and the treasurer responsible for regularly maintaining the society’s financial accounts.

On being contacted over the issue, VK Sinha, president of the AOA, said that the members of the residents’ body got a whiff of the issue recently and found that two members of the maintenance staff from Willbrose Ltd, the maintenance agency providing maintenance service in the society, were involved in the issue.

“Both the staff members were on leave and have not returned. We tried contacting them but couldn’t reach them. They are absconding at the moment. We have already discussed the issue with the top management of the agency who assured that the agency will compensate for the loss,” Sinha said.

On being asked about the amount of loss incurred by society, Sinha said that it would amount to around Rs 3.5 to 4 lakh. “We have already informed the maintenance agency that if they failed to reimburse the money, we will deduct 5 lakh rupees from the pending payments that are owed to the agency,” Sinha added.

Officials of Indirapuram police station said that appropriate action would be initiated on the report following an investigation.
