Gurgaon, Sector 57: How Eden Park was reclaimed...

Spread across 4 acres, Eden Park in Sector 57, Gurgaon, had become a place that most residents feared visiting.

In the absence of lights, it had become a shady hub for people wanting to drink, or lovers looking for the cover of dark.

The lights in the park have been lying defunct for a couple of years, and civic bodies have simply turned a blind eye to it.

“Senior citizens, women and children have stopped going to the park altogether. They say they feel insecure. And the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram [MCG] did nothing to improve the situation,” said NS Yadav, RWA president, Sector 57.

But help came from unexpected quarters.

The RWA of Sector 46, located close to Sector 57, stepped in. It got two sodium lights installed at the park.

“We had to do this, as the park belonged to residents. We had to reclaim it. We bought two sodium lights and got them installed. We are always willing to pitch in for development efforts,” said Raj Kumar Yadav, RWA president, Sector 46.

Kudos, Sector 46!
