Gurgaon: Residents hassled over encroachments on service lanes

Residents of Sector 38 and JMD Gardens, Sector 33, say vehicles parked in such lanes between Rajiv Chowk and Subhash Chowk have made it difficult for them to reach their homes.

Gurgaon: Residents hassled over encroachments on service lanes

Residents of Sector 38 and JMD Gardens, Sector 33, in Gurgaon have been grappling with the problem of encroachments on service lanes along the stretch of Sohna Road that lies between Rajiv Chowk and Subhash Chowk. They say they have a hard time travelling to their sectors.

Due to several shops, such as general stores, car repair shops, hardware shops, property dealers and even eateries, on the service lane, people park their cars that end up blocking the traffic on the lanes. Residents claim to have complained to the respective RWAs but to no relief. They say that as there are anti-encroachment drives in the entire city, these areas should also be cleared of cars that are parked throughout the day.

Prem Pal, a resident of Sector 38, told City Spidey, “I travel to New Delhi daily. I do not get exhausted in the entire drive but crossing Subhash Chowk to enter my sector is a hassle. There is no space left even for the pedestrians.”

“In case of an emergency, I can’t send my son to the shops as the area has chaotic traffic,” he added.

Residents also allege that the hardware shops keep their tempos parked on the lanes for the whole day leaving no space for the residents.

Geetu Wadhwa, resident of JMD Gardens, said, “There is only one entry and exit gate for the condominium, and one has to use the service lanes to enter the society. There is no alternate route. The service lane is completely encroached upon by vehicles of shopkeepers.”

Moreover, an autorickshaw stand outside the main gate of the condominium has aggravated the situation.

When City Spidey spoke to SS Rohilla, MCG spokesperson, he said, “We will definitely look into the matter and plan an anti-encroachment drive here too.”
