The slums outside the gates have become a major source of concern.
Residents of Rail Vihar in Sector 56, Gurgaon, are having a difficult time, with slums right outside the society.
The society, spread across 10 acres, has 400 families.
It mainly has senior residents, and the slum encroachments outside have made life difficult for them, with loud music playing late into the night, drunken tiffs and constant ruckus among the dwellers.
“These people play loud music late into the night, and usually get into tiffs with each other after getting drunk,” complained Manmohan Sharma, RWA president of Rail Vihar.
The society has been asking the authorities to relocate these slums, but no action has been taken so far.
“We feel unsafe to venture out after dark, as men get drunk and start abusing each other — it’s a bad situation for our children and grandchildren. Also, often they bathe in the open — it’s quite embarrassing, particularly if there are visitors,” added SK Sharma, a resident.
Speaking to City Spidey, police official Rahul Dev said, "We will increase patrolling in the area. The residents must ask Municipal Corporation of Gurugram [MCG] to do something about the situation."
