Imagine dealing with a water crisis in this heat! Ggn Sec 56 is doing just that

Sector 56, Gurgaon, has been facing a severe water crisis for the past two days.

The matter has now been reported to the MCG commissioner V Umashankar, and the sector has been managing with water tankers sent by MCG for the past two days.

The canal water the sector gets is not enough for its 600 families; neither is there any particular time or duration of the supply. The underground tank of the sector, too, remains frequently empty.

“We were given in writing last year that water would be supplied for two hours in the morning,” said Prem Chand Biblani, a resident. “We have to get up every day at 4 am to just check whether there is water supply at all. And sometimes the supply comes for only 10 minutes. In that duration, not even one tank can be filled up.”

“Day before yesterday, MCG sent nine tankers and yesterday just four. The tankers take an hour to travel to Civil Lines for a refill. There, too, they have to wait in line,” said Sudhir Bhardwaj, president of the sector RWA. “For more than a month now MCG has been trying to replenish the two borewells non-functional for the past five years, but surprisingly it isn’t utilising the one functional borewell at this time of crisis. Are the authorities really serious about their work or are they just giving us false commitments?”

Speaking to City Spidey, executive engineer Gopal Kalawat said, "For tubewell repairs and for checking supply we have appointed a junior engineer."

The MCG commissioner has asked for 15 days to provide a solution to the problem. He said Huda supply would be checked and see whether a water line could be drawn from from Sector 51 to Sector 56.
