Bad roads, lack of security: Would you want to live in these Ggn sectors?

Residents have been repeatedly voicing their concern about sector roads, but no one seems to be listening.

Bad roads, lack of security: Would you want to live in these Ggn sectors?

Residents of sectors 69, 70 and 71 in Gurgaon have major concerns about the state of sector roads. Potholes and lack of streetlights – as a result, lack of basic security – have made commuting or even walking on these streets fraught with danger for residents.

Even the Southern Peripheral Road is in poor condition, which connects Vatika Chowk to Sohna Road. About 72 new sectors have been carved out of the lesser known areas of the city, and a large number of properties have come up along the Southern Peripheral Road.

Residents say that Huda has handed over most sectors to Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and hence shirk responsibility.

Col (Retd) Mahabir Singh, a resident of Tulip Ivory, in Sector 70, said, “We have gone to the Huda office several times to air our grievances but officials there say they can’t intervene.”

In the lack of streetlights, returning home late is a major concern, especially for working women. They say there is not even police deployment there.

Vikas Ranjan, RWA president of Tulip Orange, also in Sector 70, said, “So many of our cars have been damaged because of driving over these bad roads. Repairs are expensive and many of us have shelled out a lot of money in repeated repairs. Despite paying external development charges, why aren’t these basic facilities being provided?”

A large number of housing and commercial projects have come up from sectors 68 to 74, and many projects have even handed over possession to flat owners. However, lack of these basic facilities is driving residents up the wall.

Following repeated complaints, developers have now asked the Haryana government to accelerate the delivery of better infrastructure. Despite Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s announcement in September that development would take place in phases, the city’s infrastructure seems the worse for wear.
