Ghaziabad police issues guidelines for online and ATM fraud

In light of the recurring online and ATM-related cases of fraud in the city, Ghaziabad police has issued a set of guidelines that are to be followed by residents while withdrawing money from ATMs and carrying out digital transactions.

  1. Always hide your ATM pin while entering it on the machine
  2. Do not let an unknown person stay inside the ATM cabin while using the ATM.
  3. Use the ATM card yourself.
  4. Reverse the card while removing it after usage
  5. Do not disclose the card's validity date, other information on the back of the card and the OTP to anyone even someone asks for these over phone.

The police has also identified a list of fraudulent callers which residents need to be aware of.

  • Calls for awarding fake lottery wins
  • Callers impersonating officers of insurance companies
  • Quizzes via phone calls which promise money against correct answers for questions like identifying actors and movies.
  • Fraudulent promises of getting jobs and employment
  • Promises to double invested money in short time
  • Offers to polish ornaments
  • Offers to solve problems with the help of godmen and babas in exchange for money.
  • Issuing bundles of currency against ornaments and jewellery.
  • Offers to issue quick loans from banks.

Recently, the city’s police has nabbed several gangs for running fake call-centres in areas such as Khoda and Shaheed Nagar. The police has also asked residents to contact the police and their respective banks in case of any such calls or transactions.
