Most resident associations in Delhi are unhappy with the government's proposed parking policy.

Last week, the state government had invited suggestions from the city's RWAs to form the parking policy, after which it prepared a draft.

As per the proposed policy, cars parking on roads will have to pay parking charges.

The RWAs feel levying parking charges on cars parked on roads is not the right step.

"Who will pay the parking charges if we have guests over and they park outside my house?" asked Atul Goel, general secretary of an RWA in South Delhi.

The RWAs also feel the parking charges should not be based on the width of the street on which cars are parked.

“The government should impose parking charges not on the width of the street or roads inside the residential colonies. It should be based on the number cars," said BS Vohra, president of East Delhi RWA joint front.
