Here's how you can keep your car safe...

Ghaziabad police has issued a set of guidelines for residents of the city to keep their vehicles safe. Of late, there have been a number of incidents in which either vehicles or their parts have been stolen.

The list of guidelines issued by Akash Tomar, SP City of Ghaziabad, via WhatsApp includes:

  1. Do not leave vehicles unlocked.
  2. Do not leave vehicles running while unattended.
  3. Avoid leaving valuables inside cars; even if you have to, make sure they are visible to passers-by.
  4. Do not leave vehicle registration documents inside the car, as thieves having valid documents can escape the police radar.
  5. Do not leave car windows open.
  6. Park vehicles in well-lit public areas, as thieves prefer poorly lit areas.
  7. Instal Global Positioning System (GPS) in vehicles, so they can be tracked in case they are stolen.
  8. Emboss registration numbers on windows of vehicles.
  9. Instal audible alarm systems that can go off in case there is any theft attempt.
  10. Instal vehicle immobiliser systems to prevent the vehicle from hot wiring.
  11. Maintain a valid insurance of the vehicle to recover damages in case of theft or damage.
  12. In case you sense a threat, park your vehicle where it can be accessed easily.

Speaking to City Spidey, residents said although many of the points were common knowledge, vehicle owners could get careless and not follow basic security norms. “It is good that the police has brought these issues to the fore and also drawn attention to them,” said Nitin Arora, a resident of an ATS society.
