Green Ghaziabad campaign gathers pace

The beauty and the brawn lent glamour and muscle to Ghaziabad Development Authority’s mega tree-planting drive.  Wowing the environment enthusiasts was Preety Bhaskar, finalist of Mrs India Earth and wrestler Satpal Yadav at the tree planting drive held across various parts of the city on Sunday.

Aakash Vaishishtha, the green activist who had organised the drive in Raj Nagar, told City Spidey that such successful events showed that people care. More such events should be held, he said.

Over 51,000 saplings were planted in Ghaziabad in a mega planting drive held at many places including City Forest, City Park, Green Park, Indirapuram and on 8 km stretch on green belt of the city.

SP Shisodia, in-charge of the GDA’s horticulture department, told City Spidey that the best thing about the campaign was that people from different circles of the city participated in the event.

Vijaypal Baghel, a pro-green activist from Ghaziabad who is also known as the ‘Green Man’ said the green drive was a massive success as it was not limited to officials. People from all walks of life joined in for the drive. “The drive was conducted properly in all the zones of the city right from Kavinagar to Indirapuram. It was nice and a major success,” Baghel added.

Residents and RWA members from Ahinsa Khand II in Indirapuram who had gathered under the banner of ‘Green Team’ also took part in their share of the green drive experience. The members had procured plants and saplings beforehand from the GDA and started the drive in Kanauni Public School. This was followed by tree-planting in individual societies and on the dividers of the neighbourhood roads.

Speaking to City Spidey, Jayati Jain, member of Green Team said that the drive was a major success and has given a boost to the greening effort of the ‘team’.
