Can this East Delhi MP so easily take credit for DDA's work?

As residents are aghast at how blatant Mahesh Giri's proclamations are, DDA says it will investigate the matter.

Can this East Delhi MP so easily take credit for DDA's work?

A report published on City Spidey on July 9 brought to light how East Delhi MP Mahesh Giri took credit for work done by DDA.

Recently, an open gym was set up at a local DDA park in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension. However, residents one fine morning found posters claiming how the gym was the result of the tireless work of the MP and a few other local BJP leaders!

Soon, the news of such blatant indiscretion on the part of an important local figure became the talking point of societies not only in the vicinity but elsewhere as well. Residents of Mayur Vihar Phase I, Vasundhara Enclave and other parts of East Delhi began expressing their displeasure.

Vikrant Singh, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase I, told City Spidey, “We are well aware that the gym was set up by DDA’s civil department. But Giri jumped in to take credit, as if the gym was installed from MP funds.”

BS Rawat, a resident of Deluxe Apartments in Vasundhara Enclave, added, “It was DDA’s plan to set up open gyms in local neighbourhood parks. When I came to know of the scheme, a few other residents and I approached DDA about it. A couple of weeks back, the open-air gym was set up in the park, and then we see a banner claiming development done by Mahesh Giri!”

City Spidey contacted a senior DDA official for comment. He said, “The civil department of DDA is handling the project. So far, about 200 parks across the city have been facilitated with open-air gyms.”

He added, “I can’t say why Mahesh Giri or other political workers are taking credit for it. We will investigate the matter.”

When City Spidey spoke to Mahesh Giri, he said, unfazed by all the criticism, “We put up our banner because the gym was set up with our efforts. As many as 50 ‘recommendations’ have come from East Delhi, which we passed on to DDA. We have records of all those recommendations from individual residents and RWAs.”
