SDMC sets up monsoon control rooms

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has set up a round-the-clock monsoon control room at its headquarters and one each in its four zones.

SDMC commissioner Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said the control room at SDMC headquarters would receive calls at the toll free no: 1266. It can also be reached at 23220016 and 23220010. These numbers will function up to September 15 or later, as required.

The control rooms in all the four zones of SDMC have become operational with additional staff and equipment. The director of the enforcement cell has been functioning as the coordinating officer of the central control room at the headquarters.

Similarly, APROs (assistant public relations officer) are functioning as coordinating officers at the zonal level, under the supervision of zonal deputy commissioners.

SDMC mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat stated that the control rooms would work in three shifts. The staff has been instructed to be courteous while answering the calls.

Field staff has been provided with wireless sets and mobile phones that will remain active even at night.

The control rooms have been provided with a comprehensive list of important phone numbers and addresses whose services may be required at the time of emergency. Trucks have been deployed in all the shifts separately. Labour, portable pumps, manhole covers, precast slabs, tools and other equipment have also been provided.

Sehrawat added that the control rooms have been instructed to submit a daily report to not just its immediate in-charge but a host of other senior officials.
