Noida Authority promises fresh road signs

Noida Authority is set to start painting road marks across the city to better manage traffic movement.

An official from the traffic cell of Noida Authority said, “We will start the project by July-end. The project involves marking zebra crossings, left-right turns, stop lines and designated spaces for pedestrians.”

A survey conducted by the traffic cell found that more than the 75 per cent of the road markings have been wiped clean.

"We have sent the estimated budget to higher officials of the Authority, and we’ll start work the moment we get permission. Once the markings are in place, it will help the traffic police to regulate movement on the roads,” the official said.

Layak Singh, traffic inspector of city police, told City Spidey lane markings have faded out at some places, making it easy for motorists to violate rules during peak hours. “After the markings are done, we’ll be able to penalise erring motorists,” he added.

The traffic police in Noida is under immense pressure, as they need to handle three to four VIP movements a day, on average.

The traffic department has 162 personnel and 50 traffic marshals in the district — a strength hardly enough to manage a city whose population has already crossed six lakhs.
