Red alert for green belt in Sector 21

Ever since Noida Authority removed a fence from the green belt along Sector 21 to widen a road, the site is in danger of losing its sheen as it turns into a dumping ground for construction contractors and a pasture for our holy cows.

Red alert for green belt in Sector 21

At a time when conserving plants should be given priority, officers of the horticulture department of Noida Authority are in deep slumber. A stretch of green belt in Sector 21, more than a kilometre long, is under threat of being lost, as it becomes a dumping ground for construction waste and a favourite pasture for cattle. To make things worse, factory workers passing by the road litter all over the place.

RWA of Jalvayu Vihar has taken up the issue with concerning officers several times in the past, but no action has been taken yet. Says Squadron Leader (Retd) DP Goel, RWA Chairman of Jalvayu Vihar, "We have drawn the attention of the concerned officers to this green belt right opposite Sector 20. But we are yet to see any action."

The problem started when the Noida Authority removed the fence along the green belt to widen the road between Sector 21 and 20. But it has not installed the fence back.

As a result, it is not only the animals that are encroaching upon the area for fodder, but also the private contractors who are dumping construction waste on it.

"Until the construction waste is removed and the fence is installed back, the belt is in danger of losing its green touch," warns Deputy Commandant (retd.) OP Mehta, another office bearer of Jalvayu Vihar RWA.
