Traffic lights that don't work. That's Dwarka for you

The signals are either not functioning or are entirely covered by overgrown branches, but that’s no bother for the traffic department.

Traffic lights that don't work. That's Dwarka for you

If not the rains, it’s the traffic signals holding up Dwarka.

Several signals are either not functioning or are entirely covered by trees. The signals at Shakti Chowk, KM Chowk, Sector 3, Sector 8, Sector 13 and Sector 12 are classic examples.

President of the Sector 8 RWA, PS Dhunta, said,"The signal at Sector 8 near DTC Depot has not been working properly for a week now. It’s an accident-prone zone! Authorities must ensure that the signals work.”

Many signals are not visible to commuters, hidden behind overgrown branches.

"The green light is almost invisible behind leaves. Delhi Development Authority [DDA] and traffic police should look into the matter with more seriousness. The signals should be made visible."

But residents complain officials are far from concerned.

Anurag Behel of Shruti Apartments, Sector 7, said, "The circle officers are not serious about the problem. When we call, they choose to not respond!”

Another spot of bother is the maintenance of traffic signals.

President of Dwarka Forum, Rejimon CK, said, "The maintenance of traffic lights is a serious issue. The traffic police should ask the agency responsible for maintenance to monitor more promptly — and without any delay. But that’s something completely absent in Dwarka."
