In yet another incident that underlines the dire lack of women’s safety in the NCR, a resident of Sector 57, Gurgaon, a senior journalist was molested and assaulted near her flat in Block F as she was walking home on Thursday night.

According to police reports, the victim, a senior journalist with a leading publication in Delhi, had parked her car close to her flat after coming back from work and was walking back home when an unknown man grabbed her from behind and molested her. When she resisted, he assaulted her and fled with her gold chain. Despite losing her balance and falling to the ground, she tried to chase down the assailant, but could not get a hold of him.

The man had entered a building in Block F. She tried to chase him and even shouted for help, but despite two security guards chatting nearby and being well within earshot, no one came to her help.

It was only after the police arrived that the security guards entered the building to look for the assailant, but found all apartments locked.

According to the police, as soon as they received a call from the victim, they immediately rushed to the spot in a PCR van with five cops, including the station house officer Arvind Kumar. However, they could not locate the assailant.

“A sector gate nearby was open, and the assailant must have fled under the cover of the dark,” said a senior police official.

A case of molestation, assault and snatching has been registered at the Sector 56 police station, and two plainclothes police teams have been deployed in the area.

The victim is in a state of shock, but told the police that she would recognise her attacker if she saw him again. She said the man was in his twenties and that she got a good look at his face.

Talking to City Spidey, Joginder Singh, president of the sector RWA, said, "This is an open sector and security, especially, is an issue. We are trying our best to protect residents but we need to increase police presence here. The security guards and the police need to work together for any kind of solution to be reached."
