Workshop for Ghaziabad RWAs on hiring house help

To avoid a repeat of the Mahagun Moderne episode, Ghaziabad district administration is set to conduct a workshop for RWAs and residents at the DM’s office tomorrow.

The workshop, meant to create awareness about hiring domestic help, will be conducted under the aegis of Shakti Vahini, an NGO which has been campaigning against human trafficking, child rights, and is involved in women empowerment.

Speaking to City Spidey, Rishi Kant, a representative from Shakti Vahini, said, “The residents hire help from agencies, which are mostly dubious in character. There are no laws governing these agencies, and — in most cases — they do not verify the identity of the servants. The recent incident at Mahagun Moderne could have been avoided had people been aware.”

“The workshop is for RWA heads, as they represent large residential complexes — and can spread the word. We urge more and more people to participate in the event,” urged Kant.

RWA members welcomed the move and admitted that most did not know about the formalities of hiring house help apart from police verification.
