RERA mandates registration number for agents

Real estate agents now need to register themselves with RERA, or the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act. They risk losing their jobs if they fail to comply. The decision was taken keeping in mind the rising number of complaints from homebuyers.

Agents have to provide information as required by RERA before getting the registration number. Those who do not register or obtain a registration number will not be allowed to work.

Here’s what the agent needs to provide on the RERA portal: his name, his father’s name, information regarding his business and a recent photo. Apart from that, he needs to provide his PAN card and Aadhar card numbers, e-mail ID, three years’ audit balance sheet, three-year income tax returns, mobile number and project experience.

Until now, a real estate agent did not have any special ID. But now he needs a registration number and that is to be mentioned in every deal.

This process will help to bring erring agents to the dock in case of fraud. The builder, too, will also deal only through authorised agents.

Buyers can now register complaints online, but for every complaint he has to pay Rs 1,000 as charges. The complainant will also need to provide a phone number.
