Dengue alert in Gurgaon

Two more cases of dengue were reported from Gurgaon yesterday, taking the toll to three.

The first case, reported last week, was a 22-year-old man from Sector 46. He has been admitted to a private hospital.

Then two more cases surfaced — a 26-year-old resident of Jacobpura, confirmed positive at Civil Hospital, and a 30-year-old male, tested positive at a government hospital in Hisar.

Three cases close on the heels of each other have sent alarm bells ringing.

“We are witnessing a huge number of patients with dengue and chikungunya symptoms. We are taking precautionary measures. We are asking people to get tested even if they have normal fever,” said BK Rajora, chief medical officer, Civil Hospital.

The health department has already mapped out several areas for immediate fogging, including sectors 5, 10, 9, 38, 52, 46 and 44, Jharsa village, DLF Block U, Wazirabad.

“We are taking water samples from Jacobpura village and nearby areas as well. Residents have been asked to keep an eye for stagnant water in their locality. They must inform the health department. I have seen about 10-15 cases with dengue symptoms in the past 15 days, which is a worrying trend,” said Ram Prakash, epidemic-in-charge, Civil Hospital.

Last year, the city hit a four-year high in the number of dengue cases, with the district health department recording 401 cases.
