Five lakh commuters on a route that’s under-manned!

Heavy traffic congestion on the 6-km stretch between the Metro stations of Sector 15, Noida, and Botanical Garden has made life miserable for commuters, especially during peak hours.

Only a few points on this stretch have traffic personnel — their number way too less for effective management. According to the traffic police, more than 5 lakh people use this road every day.

Commuters say drivers of three-wheelers are the main reason for frequent traffic jams on this road. They drive erratically and suddenly apply brakes on the road, a common cause of accidents.

Rahul Kumar Singh, a commuter, told City Spidey that the road on this stretch is not wide enough and the movement of buses increases traffic snarls. “Traffic police must be present at each intersection to ensure smooth vehicular movement,” he demanded.

When City Spidey contacted Layak Singh, traffic inspector of Noida, he said there are 403 roundabouts and traffic signals in the city and only 162 police personnel and 50 traffic marshals to man them. So it is not possible for traffic police to be present at every roundabout or traffic signal.

He also said that demand for 20 more traffic inspectors and 500 more traffic constables, raised by the SP traffic (Noida) to the UP government, is yet to be taken up for consideration by the state government.
