Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) on August 5 stopped supplying power to Amrapali Silicon and Amrapali Princely Estate, two societies in Noida, as the builder has failed to clear its dues.

Residents said it was an uphill task to get possession of their flats and now that they have finally moved in to their new flats, they are forced to live without power. Residents said they had been regular in making electricity bill payments through their prepaid meters but the builder had not been paying UPPCL for over a year. "Why should we pay Rs 20 a unit of DG charges when it is the builder's fault that we do not have electricity?" asked the residents.

Neeraj Mishra, a resident of Amrapali Silicont, told City Spideythat the UPPCL officials disconnected the power at around 2 pm. “There are more than 1,600 families living in the society. Imagine what we are going through,” he added.

Rajendra Pal, another resident of Amrapali Silicon, said UPPCL had also disconnected power in June. “The Amrapali officials had told us that they will pay the outstanding amount in installments but they still did not pay," he added.

JK Gupta, chief executive engineer of UPPCL, told City Spidey that the builder owed UPPCL about Rs 1 crore for Amrapali Silicon and Rs 1.5 crore for Amrapali Princely Estate. “We have sent several reminders to the builder but are yet to receive any payment,” he added.

UPPCL officials have said they will restore power once they have received the payment.

Residents said if  power supply was not restored soon, they would conduct a protest against Amrapali Group.
