Gurgaon, brace for jams at Signature Tower junction

Gurgaon commuters must brace themselves for jams at Signature Tower junction from tomorrow, owing to route diversions that have been put in place for construction of an underpass.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has cordoned off a section of the road opposite to Crown Plaza, blocking the straight road from Maharana Pratap Chowk towards Huda City Centre Metro station and the right turn towards Jaipur.

Commuters from Maharana Pratap Chowk going towards Jaipur can no longer take the right turn at the junction. They’ll now need to take a left turn from the cut at Traffic Safety Park, and drive along Leisure Valley Road and join the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway through the service lane next to the Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29.

However, no route diversions have been introduced for commuters on the stretch from Huda City Centre Metro station towards Maharana Pratap Chowk.

The route diversions were enforced on Saturday.

“The NHAI has blocked a portion of the road to pave way for the construction of an underpass. Commuters can, therefore, no longer head straight or right from Maharana Pratap Chowk. The road width, too, has narrowed down quite a bit,” explained Simardeep Singh, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).

Arterial roads aren't fit to handle a large traffic volume, but since most commuters would have to use these roads, jams will be inevitable.
