Mahagun Moderne: Sister hangs self on the evening of Raksha Bandhan

Mahagun Moderne in Sector 78, Noida, is back in the news, this time for the alleged suicide of a 32-year-old woman on Monday, around 7 pm.

Ritu Verma, a resident of Lucknow, had come to stay with her older brother, who lives in the society, about 15 days back. She was found suspended from the ceiling fan by her brother, Sharad Verma, in the evening when he went to call her from her room. According to the police, she was depressed because her marriage proposals were not working out. However, no suicide note has been retrieved from the flat.

Ironically, and sadly, the incident took place on Raksha Bandhan and was discovered by her brother.

“The family has been living in the society for the past six months, and they seemed happy,” a resident said.

Verma told City Spidey the whole incident came as a shock to him. “Just in the morning, she tied a rakhi on my wrist. She was behaving normally, though she did seem a bit stressed,” he added.

Purshuram, station house officer (SHO), Sector 49, told City Spidey that upon initial investigation it seemed like a case of suicide.

“Family members told us the girl was going through depression. The body has been sent for post mortem. We’ll be able to say more only after the report arrives,” he added.
