I'puram: Parents raise concerns about GD Goenka's CBSE affiliation

While GD Goenka Public School Indirapuram continues to remain closed after 11 days of Armaan Sehgal’s death, parents associations across Ghaziabad are raising concerns about the affiliation of the school with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Members of parents associations allege that the school was not originally listed on the CBSE website but was later visible on it after parents raised questions about its affiliation.

However, a parent from the school filed an RTI query with the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Ghaziabad. The parent asked for dates of the school's CBSE affiliation, along with a copy of the relevant documents. The parent also asked for the date on which the no-objection certificate, or NOC, was issued by the state government, along with a copy of the certificate. “After I got to know about the doubts raised by parents, I had to be sure. I am waiting for a response to my queries, and I am also concerned about the details of the educational institution I am sending my child to,” the parent told City Spidey.

Meanwhile, as the news of these doubts about the school’s affiliation spread, the school came up with an update on its official Facebook page, saying, “School is affiliated to CBSE. CBSE Affiliation No 2131943.”

The parents also raised a demand from the school’s administration to investigate its affiliation details. Rajesh Yadav, ADM finance and revenue of Ghaziabad, assured parents that the issue would be investigated and action initiated accordingly.

Speaking to City Spidey, Shivani Jain, president of All School Parents Association, said, "The private schools are nothing but business houses. They tend to flout guidelines issued by various authorities. We are also set to approach GDA to find out details about the school’s land allotment, and violations of various other building by-laws,” Jain added.
