Among residential societies, and social and religious organisations, ISKCON temple in Sector 13 is hosting the biggest celebrations.
If the area you live in has a name like Dwarka, is it a surprise that one of its biggest celebrations is Krishna Janmashtami? Everywhere, from residential societies to social and religious organisations, Dwarka is caught up in the Janmashtami fervour.
The ISKCON temple in Sector 13, the Golak Dham temple in Sector 10 and the Dwarkadheesh temple in Sector 12 are taking a lead in celebrations. Not to be left behind, women’s groups and RWAs of the sub-city are organising kirtan sessions in residential-area temples. Programmes on cultural dance and classical music, along with quizzes and games such as musical chair for ladies are adding colour to the festive moments. Dance dramas, the timeless Krishna Leela and rock shows, too, are being staged.
But by far, the ISKCON temple in Sector 13 is hosting the biggest celebrations. Speaking to City Spidey, an ISKCON member said, “In the evening we have kirtans and performances by local groups. The dance drama and raas-leela are two of the major attractions. Leela Das Prabhu from ISKCON shall be staging a programme called O My God on August 14. The programme starts at 7 pm in the evening. However, on August 15 we shall start the various cultural and religious activities from 4.30 am in the morning.”
Incidentally, a quiz competition named “Kaun Banega Krishna Ke Devotee” is also being hosted. Vidya Bhushan, an ISKCON member and a resident of Gold Croft Society in Sector 12, said that this programme would be on the lines of the popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The participants shall be asked questions pertaining to the life of Lord Krishna. Registration has already been opened for the quiz.
At Golak Dham in Sector 10, celebrations are happening only on August 15. The various programmes will start at 6 pm and conclude at midnight. Pravachan and kirtan, Krishna Leela and various cultural programmes organised by children are the highlights here.
Advocate KS Bhati, president of Ganpati Apartments in Sector 7, said, “In our society, children and ladies are organising traditional events for Janmashtami.”
The RWA president of Radhika Apartments, SS Chowhan, said, “A fancy dress competition for children will be held. There is also a dance drama that will be staged by children.”
