The buzz in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon

Here are City Spidey's top six picks from the National Capital Region (NCR):

Noida

When PM came calling: Traffic on many stretches in Noida and Ghaziabad slowed down on Tuesday due to a series of diversions. The traffic diversions were necessitated to make way for PM Narendra Modi's visit to Noida at 4 pm. Modi visited the city to launch Stand Up India, a project to promote entrepreneurship among the economically weaker sections of society, at an event in Sector 62.

Green signal to e-rickshaw: Ahead of the launch of the e-rickshaw distribution drive by the PM, the transport department in Noida has cleared decks for registration of e-rickshaws. It is said the issue of trading licences for e-rickshaws has been resolved. Four e-rickshaw dealers have got trading licence in the city.

Ghaziabad

Shutdown over duty on jewellery: Most shops and markets in the city remained closed on Monday in protest against the proposed 1 per cent excise duty on jewellery. The shutdown was observed in response to a call given by UP Udyog Vyapar Mandal, a traders' body. However, many retail outlets in residential areas remained open.

Green nod eludes Raj Nagar club: Hopes of a club in Raj Nagar, Sector 8, were dashed on Monday. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) refused to lift the stay on the GDA project. Last year, the NGT had stopped construction of the club in a park, following a petition against it. The petitioner was the Society for Environment Protection and Bio-diversity (SEPB).

Gurgaon

Mining threat to Aravalli ecology: Illegal mining is rampant in the Aravalli hills, despite a Supreme Court ruling outlawing the activity. As many as 14 FIRs in the city have been lodged in two years. The FIRs are against individuals, stone-crushing firms and drivers of vehicles and dumpers used in mining. This was disclosed by the District Mining Office in a reply to an RTI query.

New hope for e-way oustees: People displaced due to the Dwarka Expressway project need not despair. They will soon get alternative plots. Huda has approved a revised layout plan for Sector 110A to accommodate families displaced by the construction.
