The residents of DLF5 celebrated the 70th anniversary of Indian independence with a feisty “Freedom Run”. More than 1,000 residents from across DLF5 condominiums took part in the run, which spanned over 5 km across the most prominent DLF5 properties in Gurgaon. The marathon was flagged off from Club5 and culminated at Horizon Plaza on the Golf Course Road.

Before kick-starting the marathon, the tricolour was hoisted. Hundreds of helium-filled balloons that were released thereafter added a dash of colour to the occasion.

Safety precautions were visible by way of medical, fire and security services. Moreover, fire trucks were stationed at strategic locations. Paramedics, with first aid kits and an ambulance, were present at the start, the checkpoints and the finishing line of the marathon. An Army band and a percussionist performed soulful renditions of patriotic songs.

The winners across categories were acknowledged with medals and certificates. Among the winners in the children’s category were Nichay Goel, Priyanshu Bhandhari and Manish Yadav. Amit Kumar Yadav, Manish Kumar and Arjun Saraswat won accolades in the men’s category. The lead ladies included Tuhina Despande, Nazuk Arora and Sangeeta Ojha.

Speaking on the occasion, Aakash Ohri, senior executive director, DLF5, said, “Over the years, the DLF5 Freedom Run has generated a significant buzz. This year, too, we received an overwhelming response from residents. On the occasion of Independence Day, I wish for a cleaner and a more sustainable environment for all, and congratulate all the participants of the Freedom Run.”

Mahavir Punia, of DLF5, said, “I regularly go for morning jogs, and covering the stretch wasn’t all that difficult. However, seeing such enthusiasm among my fellow runners gave me an extra dose of vigour.”

Celebrations at Fresco in Sector 50 centred on a performance by visually challenged children. The residents had organised a donation drive for these children, who regaled them with patriotic songs. Rs 1 lakh was handed over to these children. Celebrations at Sector 46, on the other hand, exuded a spiritual essence. The residents gathered at the Shiv Mandir distributed prasad.

A march past parade after the flag hoisting created the ideal Independence Day atmosphere at Park View Residency.
