Dwarka: Why do people avoid the stretch behind Durga Pooja CGHS after dark?

The stretch behind the Durga Pooja CGHS in Sector 13, Dwarka, is unsafe to walk on after sunset hours. This stretch along Trunk Drain 5 is utterly dark and desolate.

Ajay Sharma, secretary of Durga Pooja CGHS, says, “Now it has been over six months that this stretch is without lights. There are light poles but either the fittings are missing or the bulbs are not working. Authorities should address the issue and undertake the responsibility of illuminating this stretch.”

Residents of the society say that the wild bushes lining this path, coupled with the darkness, has made it a haven for anti-social elements. The hooligans openly consume liquor and indulge in various nefarious activities.

Ajay Chowdhury, president the society, says, “This area is very risky after dark. We have requested the authorities to illuminate it and cut the bushes.”

Recently the concerns were raised in front of Kamaljeet Sehrawat, mayor of SDMC, by the management of the society. Sehrawat had visited the area and assured her intervention in terms of providing a solution.

“The mayor also requested us to contact the concerned official at BSES. However, despite our communication with BSES, nothing has been done yet,” said Ajay Sharma, secretary of Durga Pooja CGHS.
