IP Ext: Will BSES be able to avert the danger Agrasen Awas is facing?

Residents of Agrasen Awas, a cooperative group housing society in IP Extension, have been contending with the danger of oil-filled electric transformers for quite some time now.

Installed at the time of the society’s inception, these transformers are now a recipe for disaster, given the manifold increase in the society's power load.

Umesh Gupta, a resident of the society, told City Spidey that residents wanted these transformers to be shifted elsewhere at the earliest.

In the words of Gupta, “These transformers were installed when the society was established. Since then, the power loading has increased manifold. Since these transformers are located close to our flat, they pose a threat to our lives as well.”

The oil transformers were installed by Delhi power discom BSES and at the time of installation, the managing committee of the society had been assured that these would be relocated in due course of time.

Residents have alleged that in the past few years, the managing committee has written several letters to BSES in regard to the relocation, but these requests have not been taken seriously.

Two months ago, the residents had visited the BSES office with the mandate of relocation. "However, BSES officials had said that the society would have to undertake the expenses this relocation would entail," Gupta revealed.
