Gzb: Parents meet minister of state against arbitrary school fee

Parents from various Ghaziabad schools on Saturday met the minister of state Atul Garg with demands to relieve parents from the annual development charges being forcibly charged by private schools.

Speaking to City Spidey, parents said that the minister, at a previous meeting, had assured them that state guidelines for regulating the fees charged by the schools would be in place by August 15 but no such development had taken place yet. “We were also assured that the fees charged for session 2017-2018 would also be refunded to parents,” said a parent.

“We held today's meeting with the minister to reiterate our demands of regulating private schools that have been coercing money from parents under various unexplained heads. The schools have been repeatedly mounting pressure on parents to either pay up or to find a different school for their wards,” said Sachin Soni, a member of the All School Parents' Association.

The Joint Director of Education had also earlier ordered the private schools to refrain from imposing arbitrary charges. However, parents said the schools paid no heed to the instructions.

“When the minister called up the officials of the district administration in our presence, we came to know that Allahabad High Court had ordered a stay on the district administration’s inquiry into the school-fee issue. The minister also asked for a copy of the order,” Soni said.

Atul Garg assured the parents that he would discuss the issue with Adityanath Yogi, UP Chief Minister, in the coming week.
